Jacilyn (Jacqueline Payton)

Jacilyn (Jacqueline Payton)

Jacilyn is an Australian Artist born in UK. She is an Intuitive Artist, Healer and Medium. She emigrated out to Western Australia in 1981, with her family. Her love of art, crafts and people and her expressive creativity has been nurtured in WA with many available opportunities here!

Jacilyn was first inspired by an artistic older lady, who lived in the same road as her primary school in UK. This lady was called Nora. She was a beautiful artist and musician. She taught Jacilyn how to make paper flowers, draw with charcoal, dressed her up in lace, beads and fans and took many photos!

Nora and Jacilyn use to have tea by gaslight (Nora didn't like electricity!) after they had been 'playing' all afternoon with charcoal, paints and tissue flowers! What fun Jacilyn had with this special lady! This lady taught her about life, art and people and Jacilyn loved her! Jacilyn's own father was always drawing as he was a good artist, although he did not draw for a living. He carved beautiful wooden models of carts with Shire Horses attached. Jacilyn's mother use to china paint flowers on cups and was a beautiful seamstress. Her Nan and aunt knitted many jumpers and cardigans!

Jacilyn completed a year of china painting, also 3 years of Porcelain Dolls classes, cleaning, firing, painting and making their clothes!

Jacilyn has tried many different arts and crafts since coming to WA. After working as a Bookkeeper/Office Administrator for many years, then Medical Receptionist at Royal Perth Hospital, she decided to change direction and buy a Ceramic Shop in 1995, where she then trained to be a Ceramic Teacher! She managed to run the shop and classes for 3 years, with the help of 7 teachers with her husband George working in Perth during the day and coming out at night to the shop, to pour clay for her! When she sold the shop, she then took up oil painting with a wonderful teacher, who was very inspirational, Irene Andross who lived up at Yanchep.

After the Ceramic shop, Jacilyn had a rest for 2 years, but continued with her oil painting classes, taking up work as Medical Receptionist in Warwick Physiotherapy Centre in 2000. In 2005 she semi-retired and joined Central TAFE, as an Art student at Fremantle College, where she took up Visual Arts and Contemporary Crafts and passed Cert. III in this subject. 2006 saw her join Curtin University for a BA in Visual Arts and Contemporary Crafts, but owing to health problems, after passing 2 units, she reluctantly decided to give it away and work from home.

Jacilyn continued to teach Ceramic painting and mosaics from her Home Studio, as she has her own Ceramic Kiln. She then took a course in Lead lighting, Mosaics and Dichroic Glass Jewellery, which she creates and fires in her Glass Jewellery Kiln.

In 1998 Jacilyn took a year long Psychotherapy Preliminary Course, Reiki I/II in 2003 and in 2004 she joined The Australian Spiritual Healers Association as a practicing healer. In-between times she took a course in Reflexology. She continues to work as an Intuitive Artist/Healer and Reflexologist from home.

In 2007 she took up Patchwork sewing, which she still enjoys, making quilts from home, as she has a Long Arm Quilter taking up all the lounge space!

Jacilyn also continues to work from her Home Studio, making and selling her Dichroic Glass Jewellery, oil, acrylic and mixed media paintings. She also creates handcrafted original Designer Bags, & machine/handmade quilts which she sells.

After taking a course in Free motion quilting with Helen Godden, she now is exploring this further with textiles, paint and her Dichroic glass Jewellery.

Jacqueline exhibits and sells her work on a regular basis. She has paintings in private homes in UK, WA and Sydney.
