We sometimes have a workshop or demonstration theme, or just do our own thing, have fun meeting fellow artists and sharing our knowledge.

Workshops are normally FREE for members and $10 non-members.

Occasionally we have special demonstrations/guests and live models where we charge $10 members / $20 non-members.

Tea, coffee and biscuits are supplied at indoor workshops.

Sunday 10 February 2019 Workshop PDF Print E-mail



Our very own Pam Gleisinger is conducting the February workshop!

Pam will be demonstrating and instructing about studies in black and white.

Materials you will need:

  • Canvas - 20" x 24" (prepped with with white paint or gesso)is a good size;
  • Black and White Acrylic paint;
  • and/or a selection of grays (optional);
  • or Watercolour (if you prefer);
  • Pam just uses black and white, sometimes a bit of Prussian Blue (optional) for warmth;
  • Selection of brushes (own choice).

We will be looking at the different tonal values that can be obtained with a limited palette.  

Pam will bring examples of different black and white paintings, but we will be painting an arrangement that will be set up in the middle of the room.

You can paint or draw, using your preferred medium.

The club has a supply of cartridge paper for quick sketches.

Water Drops Watercolour Workshop with Renata Wright
Learn how to create extra life in your garden paintings by adding water drops!
Please bring:
  • Watercolour paper, approx 3 sheets, A4, 300 gsm medium cold pressed paper (stretched or taped to board)
  • Watercolour brushes - a variety of round, oval, and flat in different sizes
  • Watercolour paints - a variety of colours
  • Large towel to put on table
  • Jar for water
  • Lead pencil (3B or 4B), eraser, sharpener
  • Sketch pad
  • Masking fluid (optional)
  • Photo references (copyright free) of flowers/leaves/garden objects with water drops on them 
  • Real flowers/leaves/garden objects and a water spray bottle so you set up your own subject right in front of you
  • Keep your pictures simple. Just one water drop can look absolutely stunning when painted right! (See sample photos below).

BYO WORKSHOP - 18 NOVEMBER 2018 PDF Print E-mail

November is a busy month having our Annual Exhibition at Ern Halliday Recreation Facility (9 - 11 November) located in Hillarys.

We haven't had a BYO workshop for a while now.  

So come along to a relaxing Sunday afternoon, bring along a painting you are working on or start a new painting, drawing or whatever you feel like doing and enjoy a social afternoon getting to know members of our club.

Su has a vast knowledge and experience of painting with pencils.
She worked for many years within the advertising industry and also as a customer service representative in art supply retail. She has been a member of the Urban Sketchers in Brisbane where she found her pencils invaluable.

Requirements for the workshop: 

-  Paper: a light weight medium or smooth watercolor,  heavy cartridge or "Draw and Wash" pad.

    (Doesn't have to be good stuff!!)                 

-  Pencils if you have them

-   A spray bottle if you have one

-   Scalpel or craft knife for 'shaving' pencil

-   Water brush or just bring a couple of paint brushes - not big

-   Eraser in case 

-   Any scrappy bits of canvas

-   Photo for reference - not too difficult


9 September 2018, Janey Emery Workshop PDF Print E-mail


Well known artist, Janey Emery, will be conducting our workshop on Sunday, 9th September.

Janey will demonstrate her bird painting techniques, incorporating the use of gold leaf.

The club will provide gold leaf and members attending will be aksed to pay $5 to cover cost.  Visitors (non-members $15)


A canvas no smaller than 30 x 40cm pre-painted in a dark colour, preferrably gesso.

Photos of your preferred subject (not necessarily a bird)

A selection of acrylic paints, brushes, etc.

NOTE:  Janey will be painting a pair of kookaburras on a black canvas.

Leanna Taylor is a well-known Perth pastel artist.  She's been working with pastels, oils and charcoal for a number of years. 

Leanna will be giving us a workshop using dry (soft) pastels and charcoal.

Don't miss out on this long awaited opportunity to dive into pastels with Leanna as she shares her fabulous techniques with us. Artists of any level will enjoy this workshop!

What to Bring?

- A good humour!

- A photo you wish to paint.  Try something other than a seascape - trees, rocks grasses, landscape.

- Pastels - Art Spectrum - Spectrum Red, Spectrum Yellow, Ultramarine Blue, White and a few Willow charcoal sticks.

   Add as many midrange colours as you want.

- Pastel Paper (Canson) which is primed.  Colourfix

- Backing board, masking tape, bull dog clips and an old rag for hand wiping.

Oxlades, Unit 2/49 Guthrie St, Osborne Park have a full range of pastels.  Show your Club card or mention Leanna Taylor as your tutor to receive a discount.

Pam Annesley  - Polymer Clay Workshop

Polymer clay is used around the globe by professional and amateur artists with a wide range of genres from sculpture to jewellery.
Pam Annesley will show you some of the infinite possibilities with this versatile art medium. You will be shown how to use some of the techniques and will have the opportunity to make a piece of work yourself during the workshop.

Anne Muller - Print-making workshop

Come along and make styrofoam printing plates then use various methods to print them up.


  • mall simple drawing no bigger than A5 as that is the size of the plates,
  • a few sheets of A4 paper for printing, coloured or just plain cartridge, anything you feel like printing on.
  • some acrylic paint, just the cheap variety is fine everything else will be supplied.

Hopefully we can have a bit of fun and go home with some interesting prints.
